Breitling is known for producing high quality Swiss made watches that are relatively affordable when compared with other high-end Swiss watches. The one complaint I’ve had is their busy dials and that is not the case with Breitling’s new Transocean watch line.
The Breitling Transocean takes its design cues from vintage watches from the 1950’s and 1960’s with a domed crystal and round pushers. The first thing you’ll notice is the lack of a rotating bezel, which is found on a majority of Breitling watches. The watch face is relatively clutter free with the exception of a tachymeter on the outer part of the dial. The watch face consists of three recessed sub-dials for the chronograph seconds, minutes and hours and baton-style hour markers. Lume is placed on small dots behind the hour markers and in strips on the hour and minute hands. The dial and the back are covered with sapphire crystal.
The Breitling Transocean comes in a 43 mm polished case and is available in two varieties of dial colors and two case finishes; the dials consist of black or mercury silver and the cases consist of polished steel or 18 karat rose gold. An optional mesh bracelet can be ordered and all Transoceans come with brown leather or crocodile straps.
The Breitling Transocean uses the in-house made Caliber 01 automatic chronograph movements and prices start at around $7,600 for the steel version. The first 2,000 steel and 200 rose gold watches will be available as limited editions and all other watches after that will be part of Breitling’s regular line.
