We’ve written quite a bit about bicycles in the past from electric ones to the world’s most expensive bicycles. At the end of the day, a bicycle is a bicycle and built with a purpose to take you from point A to point B. While all people would like to get to a destination, some like to do it in style. And the S-Works McLaren Tarmac bicycle, a collaboration between McLaren and SBC (Specialized Bicycle Components), certainly has style.
With McLaren’s carbon fiber expertise, the S-Works McLaren Tarmac frame and fork feature a unique carbon layup schedule which has helped reduce the weight by ten percent when compared to the standard non-McLaren S-Works Tarmac bicycle. The new carbon layup is featured on the frame, crankset, a custom AeroFly handlebar, and CLX40 carbon tubular wheels. When it comes to the wheels, just the carbon layup achieves a reduction of 30 grams per rim while the reduced spoke count is able to shave off an additional 1.15kg.
The custom paint job on the bicycle is co-developed with McLaren and also happens to be painted in their exclusive McLaren Special Operations Center in the UK where the McLaren P1 super is painted. A total of 250 S-Works McLaren Tarmacs are to be built and each bike will come equipped with a pair of custom made S-Works Road Shoes and an S-Works Prevail helmet, both of which will be painted to match the frame of the bike. For even further customization, each bicycle will be built to the individual specifications of the rider based on the Body Geometry Fit consultation to provide a truly personalized experience. With a price tag of $20,000, I better be getting a personalized experience.
Customers will also get a specially designed wall mount display which was developed just for this bicycle and will not only only the S-Works McLaren Tarmac but will also hold the shoes and helmet. A personalized nameplate and certificate of authenticity will also be included with the purchase of this bike.
