Samsung Gear IconX Wireless Earbuds – Review

Wireless headphones aren’t a new concept and there are a handful of models out there that are pretty good and also pretty affordable. However, all of these headphones are exactly that, full on headphones, and sometimes we don’t want that. There are plenty of people who prefer earbuds, but up until now there haven’t been any earbuds that were actually wireless. However, Samsung has now developed the first pair of wireless earbuds, and they’re pretty awesome.

The Samsung Gear IconX Wireless Earbuds aren’t yet available, set to launch later this year, but they sound pretty amazing, but like everything, they do come with some drawbacks.

Let’s start with what’s awesome about these earbuds. First of all, they’re wireless, and that’s awesome. They’re going to come in three different sizes of eartips and wingtips, which is great because there’s nothing worse than earbuds that don’t fit in your ear properly. The earbuds will have removeable parts that will make cleaning them pretty easy, a feature that’s unique and a brilliant idea, leaving me wondering why no one has thought of that before.

Similar to other wireless earphones, these earbuds will have tap and swipe functions to skip songs, change volume or pause and play. They will come with 4GB of storage so you can keep around 1,000 songs on them without ever needing to connect to a device at all, which is pretty awesome and something we haven’t seen too much of in the wireless headphone world.

As if listening to music wasn’t enough, they’re also going to come with a fitness tracker built into them that will monitor your heart rate, track your movements and will feature a built-in accelerometer.

This all sounds absolutely awesome, but there are a couple of drawbacks. First of all, the earbuds will only be compatible with Androids, which is really unfortunate, but also not surprising since this is Samsung and Apple is their competitor. However, there are rumors that there will be ways to upload and store music to them so you can still use them even if you do have an iPhone.

If you have an Android and these are a good fit for you, great! But there is still one thing that is a bit less ideal. The battery will only last about an hour and a half is streaming music, and about three hours if listening to stored music. This is pretty poor, but there’s an upside. The case that comes with the earbuds is actually a chargeable case, so you can charge the earbuds on the go.

These earbuds have some amazing features, but as with anything a few drawbacks as well. Estimated to cost around $200 when they’re released in the next couple of months, they’re a bit pricey but do come with some pretty incredible features. Definitely something to watch out for.
