Samsung Maestros Smart Bike

Just over a month ago I wrote about (possibly) the world’s first smart bike, the Vanhawks Valour. Today I bring you yet another smart bike, this time by a major manufacturing powerhouse, Samsung. The bike is called the Samsung Maestros Smart bike, which is the creation of designer Alice Biotti and frame builder Giovanni Pelizzoli.

The Vanhawks smart bike should start shipping in September, I’m not sure when Samsung’s smart bikes will be available, so we’ll see who has the title of the “world’s first smart bike”.

The Samsung smart bike is a little different from the Vanhawks bike; not only is the Samsung bike “smart” in terms of tech gadgetry, it also features a unique curved frame that reduces vibrations caused by potholes and other rough road conditions.

The bike’s main functions are controlled by a smart phone that can be magnetically attached to the bike’s handlebar. The Maestros smart bike comes with four laser beams that project virtual bike lanes in front of and behind the rider (seen before on the bike lane safety light), the idea here is to keep traffic away from the rider by creating a virtual bike lane. The bike is equipped with a rear facing camera behind the seat, displaying video on the handlebar mounted smart phone; great for knowing what’s happening behind. The bike also comes with route tracking via GPS and will include more features in the future. [Via]
