Silverware Sets – Tips For Your Fine Dining Experience

Nowadays it’s not unusual for people to just sit you down for a meal with a fork and knife. Perhaps a spoon should that come in handy. It seems like the art of dining with a full silverware set has gone away, which is sad because having a full silverware set and utilizing it is not only correct, but it’s also lots of fun!

There’s more to your dining experience than just the fork and the knife and one spoon. It’s all about the silverware placement on the table and buying a set that includes everything you need. A set should typically come with six pieces and we’re briefly going to talk about each silverware piece and what it should be used for and where in the silverware placement it should go.

Two Knives
Usually in a silverware set there are two knives: one for the as the dinner knife and one as the salad knife. These are placed on the right hand side of the place setting with the blades pointing inward, with the dinner knife next to the plate.

Any good silverware set will come with these two, with the dinner knife usually slightly larger.

Two Forks
Just like the knife, there are typically two forks as well, one for the main meal and one for the salad/appetizer. Much like the knife, these forks vary in size, with the dinner fork being slightly larger.

These are placed on the left hand side of the place setting, with the dinner fork closest to the plate as well.

Two Spoons
Unlike the forks and knives, a good silverware set will come with two spoons for different purposes: a soup/fruit spoon and a dessert spoon.

The spoons in this set are also placed very differently than the forks and knives. The soup or fruit spoon is usually put next to the two knives on the outside of the right hand side of the silverware placement. Then, the dessert spoon is usually brought out on the dessert plate when it comes time for dessert.

Any good silverware set will have these six crucial pieces to them and you’ll be on your way to dining properly and in style. It’s important when buying silverware sets to make sure you get one that you love and also that you use it properly but placing it in the correct silverware placement. There isn’t much point in spending the extra money for a proper silverware set to then place it incorrectly on the table. With these tips your dinner experiences will be much more fun.
