We’ve featured German car tuners, Brabus, on a few occasions here at Unfinished Man but never like this; all our previous posts have been on high-performance Mercedes cars but this post explores the other end of the spectrum, the smart fortwo Brabus Xclusive presented by Brabus UK.
The smart fortwo was launched in 1998 and over 1.3 million vehicles have been sold since. In 2002 Brabus and smart teamed up to create a new line of customized fortwo city cars, in the last decade, over 50,000 of these tuned city cars have been sold.
The smart fortwo Brabus has been tuned with mainly aesthetic components but it does get a sportier transmission and suspension tuning. The car is power by a turbocharged 1-liter gasoline engine producing 102 horsepower (bhp) and 108 pound-feet (147 Nm) of torque, this may not sound like much but should be adequate in a small car like this. The car accelerates from 0 – 62 mph in 8.9 seconds and tops out at 155 mph with a pretty good fuel economy of 5.2 liters/100 km (about 45 miles per US gallon).
Some of the other upgrades on the smart fortwo Brabus edition include a new front bumper with larger air scoops, sporty 16” front and 17” rear wheels, a pair of centered chrome-plated exhaust tips, and a body color Brabus rear apron. The interior has been upgraded to make it a bit more luxurious and sporty, it features leather covered sports seats, leather covered three-spoke steering wheel, and velour floor mats. The gas and brake pedals are finished in matte stainless steel with rubber grips.
The smart fortwo Brabus edition is priced at €17,720 including the 19% VAT, in Europe. But if you’re looking for a smart fortwo that’s a bit more affordable, there are other models like the less powerful fortwo 45kW (60 horsepower) that has a starting price of €10,275.
