Design student, Benjamin McMahon from the University of Technology Sydney has designed one of the funkiest/coolest ceiling fans I’ve ever seen. The fan, called Ribbon Ceiling Fan, won an Australian International Design Award in the student category.
The Ribbon fan has a very contemporary look to it and looks like a ribbon being dragged in the air. According to Benjamin, the fan not only looks great but is also more efficient than a regular blade ceiling fan.
Because of the ribbon shape of the “fan blades”, air is circulated to a wider area in a room as opposed to a regular fan, which pushes air straight down. The ribbons also create more downward pressure on air compared to a regular fan while using the same amount of electricity. The Ribbon Ceiling Fan can be installed using the same hardware that is used to install a regular blade ceiling fan.
