Still Life Photography of Rotting Food – Art is Gross and Awesome

There’s an awful lot of food waste in the world we don’t think about, and what better way to draw attention to it than to create a striking series of fashion photography about rotting food? Yeah, it’s damn weird and pretty gross, but somehow, a still life photographer in London has made most of these photos really striking, and you don’t always instantly realize what you’re seeing. Look, if you’re eating lunch, or icky things make you squeamish, don’t click through. But secretly, you know you want to look at a bunch of weird food things going fuzzy and changing colors. I WARNED YOU, OKAY?

one third project

Klaus Pichler is an Austrian artist who’s put together this bizarre project called One Third; it’s a poignant commentary on the fact that we really aren’t cognizant of the amount of food we waste on a daily basis. While that’s something to keep in mind and is an important issue, I’m more interested in this series of photos simply because they are so amazing. Taking something as repulsive as rotting food and creating striking, beautiful images out of it is a pretty phenomenal talent. There’s also the fact that secretly, there’s something pretty fascinating about the whole process… provided you don’t have to smell it.

Author, Designer, and "that girl your mother warned you about." Looking good seems to be my job, whether it's working with the site design, or a number of other more interesting capacities. I have a ridiculous sense of humour and a brutal sense of honesty- you'll see a lot of that coming through in my writing, so don't say I didn't warn you if I somehow manage to offend you AND hurt your feelings at the same time. On the plus side, it makes my dating and advice columns a lot more pertinent to an unfinished man in the real world.
