Even after you’ve read the specs on both cars, it’s still hard to envisage the micro RC version zipping past the full-sized real deal supercar. Judging from my last visit to RC Rank, I knew I couldn’t be the only one to wonder how an RC Audi R8 would stand up against its road ready counterpart, or whether or not a Traxxas xo-1 truly could outrun a Dodge Viper- so I investigated.
I love the internet, really, I do. Where else can you find someone who has the money and sheer dumb courageousness to race such an expensive piece of kit? While I did come across a few gnarly examples of RC cars getting ‘deconstructed’ in a drag race, I also found some awe-inspiring stories of some top RC drift cars winning out in head-to-head races with their full-sized counterparts.
Here’s a look at how the top fastest remote control cars measured up against some of the world’s most elite supercars.
1. Audi R8 V10 Vs. R/C Audi R8
Here we have a story of a couple of blokes in the UK who managed to get their hands on some very nice sets of wheels and naturally decided to put them to the test.
The Losi 6IX Audi R8 LMS is a mighty beast, without doubt, kitted out with a 1200kV brushless electric motor and a pair of 5000mah 3 cell LiPo batteries, and has a 160 amp electronic speed controller. Acceleration, you ask? Nought to sixty in about 3-4 seconds. Impressive, for sure- but how did it hold up against the Audi R8 V10?
Regarding their acceleration power, they are more or less on par; yet the Audi R8 V10 is boasting a 5.2-liter engine, and will produce 532bhp at 8250rpm. It seems hard to imagine the high pitched zipping of the R/C version could ever manage to outmaneuver the V10; which is why this video of their drag race really needs to be seen to be believed.
It was a close one all round, which both drivers seems rather surprised by (I suppose that in itself is a testament to both cars), but that final race brought a well-deserved victory to the R/C Audi.
2. Traxxas xo-1 RC Car VS Dodge Viper
The Traxxas xo-1 has earned itself legendary status as the “fastest remote control car in the world”. With top recorded speeds well in excess of 100mph, it’s hard to find another RC car in the world that could rival this one.
A Dodge Viper, on the other hand, is a car of legends in itself. This car is one of the most drool-worthy supercars on the planet, having been showcased by the likes of Chris Harris on TopGear, and nominated for awards such as the Best Driver’s Car by Mothers in 2016. What happens when two legendary sets of wheels (from totally different worlds) go head to head?
Ouch! From the looks of things in the video of their drag race, the Viper didn’t stand a chance. The insane acceleration of the Traxxas xo-1 left no room for question over who was going to be the victor of that race. Not only is the Traxxas xo-1 ridiculously fast, but it’s also incredibly fluid in its movements- the Viper was no match in such a short burst race.
