Superheroes and Supervillains as Nobility

Flemish painting techniques flourished from the early 15th century until the 17th century, and until today, I had no idea that I liked the style so much. Actually, I simply didn’t know it was called Flemish painting. I just thought of paintings like this as “old timey” followed by “wouldn’t it be great if I had a portrait of myself like this hanging over my desk?”

Really, who wouldn’t want a painting of themselves in the Flemish style?

And these superheroes and supervillains are in fact paintings, by the way. Painted by artist Sacha Goldberger, this collection called “Super Flemish” portrays some of our most beloved characters as 17th century nobility, aristocrats, or “old timey people” to use the vernacular. I promise, they’re all fantastic.

Super Flemish

I’ve included a few of my favorites, but this is far from comprising the whole collection. No, Sacha has done numerous pieces like these, and I encourage you to visit his website to see the full collection. His work was recently shown at an exhibition at the School Gallery Paris, and I think you’ll see why in a moment.

I hope you enjoyed these as much as I have, and again, I encourage you to visit Sacha’s website and check out the whole collection. I was a little light on the villains, a problem you won’t have on the original website.

Lastly, I leave you with a question: have you ever commissioned a painting of yourself, and if so, where did you have it done? You may think I’m joking, but that’s just because you don’t know me very well yet. I’m interested in having a painting of myself done in the Flemish style, and I’ll post it up here for everyone to see once it’s done.

Any suggestions? Leave me a comment below and let’s get this going.
