Eidos has done an amazing job communicating with the community in the form of videos, screenshots, interviews, and tweets from the ever hilarious Jonathan Jacques-Belletête. If you haven’t looked at Jonathan’s Twitter and Tumblr accounts, you’re doing yourself a real disservice. But that’s not what this post is about. Eidos just released a new developer diary for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and this one is all about the game’s many locations. We get a deeper glimpse of Montreal and Heng Sha, as well as an overview of the extraordinary feats that the Eidos team went through to make sure that the world of DE:HR is completely
believable.
The Locations of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Interesting points from the develop diary…
- Mary DeMarle mentions that the team came up with over 100 fictional brands for the game, ranging from car companies to soft drink manufacturers. You’ll find plenty of advertisements strewn about the game world. Normally I wouldn’t be excited to see more advertising, but this is the kind of detail that makes a game-world more believable.
- One of the cities you get to visit is Montreal, home to a fictional company called Picus Communications. In Human Revolution, Picus is the global leader in news and entertainment. The lead newscaster is Eliza, a character we’ve seen in a few of the trailers.
- The Island of Heng Sha is home to Tai Yong Medical. None of the developers explained why Tai Yong Medical is important, but we know that they deal in human augmentation.
- Jonathan mentions that the world is absolutely “full of crap”. The team created a ton of garbage and threw it around the levels to make the game-world seem more believable. Again, it’s the little details that count, and these type of additions really improve immersion.
