I’ve read my share of post apocalyptic books over the years, but very few feature Running Man-esque storylines. Perhaps that’s why I’m so excited to watch The Hunger Games. Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, this post apocalyptic battle to the death adventure takes the present day phenomenon known as reality television, and sets it in a post-United States setting with a bit of gladiator style combat for good measure.
In Suzanne’s fictional world, Panem is the successor nation to the United States, and the government requires yearly tribute in the form of boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 to compete in The Hunger Games. The games are a test of the competitors ability to survive, and only one person may leave alive.
The Hunger Games Trailer
I haven’t read the book(s) yet, but the premise sounds excellent, and the trailer is top-notch as well. I’m glad that someone wrote a novel featuring a “post-apocalyptic” world that isn’t completely trashed. Sure, it sounds like Panem is run by totalitarian leaders, but at least thousands of years worth of progress haven’t been lost. From what we see in the trailer, the world actually looks rather advanced. Super cool.
The Hunger Games arrives March 23rd, 2012 in theaters everywhere.
This movie reminds me of a Japanese movie where they take a bunch of kids to an Island and let them fight to the death. You can get it in English subtitles. It’s actually pretty good and brutal. I wish I could remember the name. I wouldn’t mind downloading and watching it over the Thanksgiving weekend with the family, LOL
