The latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is a very nice looking car but if you want to get attention, you should opt for the C63 AMG and if you really want to stand out from the crowd, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe is the car for you!
Mercedes first started giving theirs cars the Black Series treatment in 2005/2006; the upgrades were mostly aesthetic and made the cars look more like the race cars from DTM (a German racing series). The 2012 C63 AMG Black Series Coupe sees not only aesthetic upgrades but it also adds some other goodies as well. The car was officially launched at this weekend’s Formula 1 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
The latest Black Series from Stuttgart is powered by the standard C63 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine but now produces a massive 517 horsepower and 457 pound-feet (620 Nm) of torque. The increase in power is achieved by using a new ECU, a 50% bigger oil cooler and forged pistons, conrods, and crankshaft. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with the 0 – 62 mph (100 km/h) time reduced to 4.2 seconds.
The coupe has a very aggressive look compared to the C-Class Coupe and its AMG cousins, with an aggressive front bumper, lower stance, lots of air vents, and beefy fender flares. The car is wider by 40 mm at the front and 70 mm at the rear and makes use of larger brakes discs (390 mm front and 360 mm rear) with four-piston calipers. The car sits on lightweight 10-spoke 19”rims and weighs 44 pounds less than the C63 AMG.
The car’s interior has been upgraded to make it look more like a race car with the addition of two front bucket seats (which look good for a racetrack but very uncomfortable for a daily driver) and the deletion of the rear seats, although there is an option to keep the back seat. The steering wheel is covered in nappa leather with Alcantara, a plank of carbon fiber has been added to the dashboard, and red seat belts are added to complete the sporty interior.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe will be available in Europe in January 2012 followed by the United States and China in March. The car will have a starting price of €115,430 (about $165,745 at today’s exchange rate) in Germany, no word yet on prices in other markets.
