A few weeks ago I saw a status update from a friend who mentioned that he had just seen the most awesome movie ever called The Raid: Redemption. I had never heard of it, but given his high praise, I went and watched it last night. If you’ve ever wanted to see hours of absolutely nothing but straight up fighting and over-the-top violence, this is the movie for you.
What’s even more exciting is that Lee Hardcastle, the mastermind behind Claycat’s THE THING, created his own claymation version of The Raid as well. Like virtually all of his short claymation films, this one features dogs and cats, and true to form, they’re all shooting, stabbing, and beating the crap out of each other.
Claycat’s THE RAID
After having watched this, I can say with all sincerity that it’s just as gruesome as the movie it’s based on, if not more so. Lee managed to capture the essence of the film in just a few minutes worth of footage, which is wonderful for many reasons. For one, it means you don’t actually have to watch the entire original version of the movie. Though the fighting is incredibly intricate and stylish, that’s literally all there is… just… hours of fighting. That may sound wonderful, but as someone who greatly enjoys a well choreographed fight, even I was tired of it after an hour.
If you’re interested in seeing more of Lee’s incredible claymation, head over to his official website and browse around. He’s done a few videos now, and if nothing else, all of them are worth watching for the incredible “voice work”. Meow Meow!
