A while back, I wrote about the Ultra-Ever Dry which is Nissan’s dirt resistant nano-paint technology. That paint used by Nissan is pretty amazing and will keep your car looking clean but what if the same idea can also be implemented for clothing? I’m sure many people have thought of the idea for decades but I have yet to see anything in stores that claim to be dirt and stain repelling. But the folks over at Threadsmiths in Melbourne, Australia have a pretty awesome trick up their sleeves.
The Threadsmiths Cavalier is apparently the world’s first water and dirt repelling t-shirt. The Threadsmiths Cavalier uses a patented hydrophobic nano technology which repels water and dirt. The Cavalier is a premium 100% cotton and probably the only shirt you’ll ever need to wear. I would love to see this implemented into carpets, rugs, bed sheets, vehicles, and sofas. Basically anything that has fabric, it can probably be implemented in. Although possible, it sure would burn a hole in your wallet. Just the t-shirt alone costs $65! It is available for men, women, and in kid sizes.

What makes the Threadsmiths Cavalier different than the others is this the method used here emulates the natural hydrophobic properties of the lotus leaf rather than relying on harmful chemicals to achieve the same results. The Cavalier t-shirt contains no aerosol applications, no harmful chemicals, and is completely safe to wear just like any regular shirt. The technology minimizes the surface area for water and dirt to adhere to which results in water/dirty to bead up and roll of the fabric much like a freshly waxed vehicle. Although the shirt features nano-tech, the cotton shirt itself is still breathable and comfortable to wear. You could say it has a natural self-cleaning system in place.
Although it doesn’t get dirty, it’s probably still a good idea to wash the shirt every so often. The repelling properties of the shirt should last up to 80 wash cycles according to Threadsmiths. And to reactivate the t-shirt’s repellent characteristics, tumble dry at low heat every few washes. Less washing also means money saved on your water and electricity bills. I like your t-shirt.
