It feels like there are new movies coming out pretty much 10 times a day, and amongst the dozens of mediocre movies it can be hard to sift out the ones that are actually worth spending your time and money on seeing. 2016 has been a good year for movies so far, but we’ve also compiled a list of ones that are either just out or to watch out for that you should make sure to take the time to see.
Deadpool
This has been all the rage for the past month or so, and it’s no wonder. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard all about it, but it’s a fun twist on the typical superhero. It’s funny, kind of violent, but also pretty much. If you haven’t seen it already, it’s worth it.
Zoolander 2
This movie came out a few months ago, but it’s still running in theaters and if you haven’t seen it yet, do so now before it gets replaced with something else. Zoolander the original was ridiculous but funny, and this is just as comedic and absurd as the first.
Warcraft
I’m sure you’ve played the game, so if that’s something you enjoy that this movie is right up your alley. It’s speculated to be action-filled and hard to turn away from. To me, it looks a little like a sadder, trying-too-hard version of Lord of the Rings, but if the video game is something you like, then you definitely should make the time to see this when it comes out at the beginning of June.
Independence Day Resurgence
“We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight. We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!” Sound familiar? This classic from the late 90s is making a comeback with it’s sequel Resurgence premiering late June. Taking place 20 years after the original events (much like in real life), whether this movie is good or not is irrelevant, it’s all about the nostalgia here. Will Smith may not be joining, but you’ll still get to see an aging Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
Jason Bourne 5
This is a well-loved really great movie series, which is rare since so many sequels are terrible. Whether Bourne 5 will be a success or not is still up in the air, but if you liked the previous movies be sure to check this one out July 29.
Assassin’s Creed
Based again on a video game, this film starts Michael Fassbender and is supposed to have a lot of potential. Definitely work checking out several days before Christmas.
So far it’s been a good year for film, but we’re even more excited about the upcoming ones later this year. Make sure to mark your calendars for these up and coming movies so you don’t miss your chance to see them on the big screen.
