Toyota Ponam-35: Lexus of the Oceans

Not to be outdone by rivals Honda with their watercraft, Toyota has decided to also enter the watercraft game with the Toyota Ponam-35 luxury boat.  This is not the first time Toyota has built a ship, in the late 90’s they had a ski-boat called Epic, which was powered by a Lexus engine, Toyota stopped making that boat in 2001.

According to the company, the Ponam-35 is the first boat in the Ponam line-up with many more models following later.  The Ponam-35 is powered by two 4.5 liter V8 engines borrowed from the Land Cruiser SUV; the engines produce a combined 730 horsepower which should be enough to move the 19,000 pound luxury cruiser around in the water with ease.

The Ponam-35 can comfortably house 12 passengers inside the cabin and 5 people on the fly bridge up top.  Toyota plans on selling 15 of these entry level luxury cruisers per year with a starting price of approximately $765,000.
