In the seventies, cocaine was already banned in the US. However, it wasn’t as universally demonized as it is today and penalties against it were much less harsh. It was a crazy decade, and its advertisement policies show it very clearly. You could find an ad for a soda right next to a razor blade to cut cocaine in any regular magazine. Hindsight makes the following ads very interesting, but also pretty disturbing.
Times have changed quite a lot since then. However, there are a lot of trends you can recognze in advertisement today that were used back then too, and in the marketing of pseudo illegal products!
