If you are a fan of the Morgan 3 Wheeler we wrote about a few years back but can’t afford its hefty price tag, then perhaps this Velomobile (Bicycle Car) is something you might want to consider. This Velomobile is built by Minks-based company called Ekomobil. The Ekomobil Morgan 3 Wheeler Replica features the same great classic looks but without all the pricey components including the engine.
The vehicle measures in at 2.5-meters in length, weighs only 60kg, and is powered by pedaling but there is an optional 48-volt hub electric motor with an 1000W output that’s available. That equals to 1.3 horpower and is powerful enough to get the vehicle going as fast as 40km/h (25mph). According to Ekomobil, the vehicle was built on technical drawings of the original Morgan. The electric range is 30 to 40 kilometers depending on your driving style and the weather.
Should the battery run dry, you can still power it by pedaling. In human-power mode, pedaling power is transferred via a chain drive to a Shimano Nexus Three-speed planetary hub transmission in the rear wheel. Unlike the original Morgan, this one does not have a feature a floor. Perhaps to save on weight or costs. Don’t expect a fancy interior as the approach seems to be a minimalistic one. It does feature synthetic leather, wood veneer, and a quartz watch on the dashboard.
The vehicle also features a lacquered composite body shell and sits on 24-inch wheels. Extra options available include a lighting system and a built-in MP3 player. And yes, that exhaust system and “engine” are only for show to give it that authentic feel of the original gas-powered Morgan 3 Wheeler.
