We spend much of our life following how we were programmed to be. It’s easy to say we all have free will and can make our own unique choices each and every day. Yet, in reality, most of us walk a predefined path that keeps us in a single lane on the highway of existence. Often, we don’t even recognize that this is how we are living. We think we have lots of choices about what job to do, where to live and how we make our way in the world. And, to some extent, we do. Yet when you take the 30,000-foot view of things you realize most of us are simply following a model that is pretty much set in stone.
As we grow up, we’re programmed to be a certain way. Children who love to explore and have fun are sent to school where they sit in straight rows of desks and learn the same meaningless facts as everyone else. Creative expression is minimized, and regimented learning is praised. We’re taught that we have to get ahead and be a success in life. Typically, that means working long hours so someone else can get rich. Day by day, year after year, we start to forget just how beautiful we are and how special we can be.
The Awakening
Fortunately, most of us do experience a time where we wake up from the illusion of everyday living. We come to realize that something is missing in life, and we wonder if this is all there is to our existence. Society labels this a mid-life crisis. In reality, it is an awakening that calls us to the very truth of who we are and what we are meant to be. Suddenly, the repetition nature of our daily monotony is swept aside and replaced by a yearning for something more.
It is in these moments that the blinders are taken off and we begin to perceive the world as it truly is. We begin to dream again, to seek meaning in our lives. The mundane existence is no longer acceptable and we have finally re-connected to the truth of why we are here. Big change is coming, for we are now on the quest to understand and become who we were truly meant to be.
Getting Your Personal Finances in Order
When we are going through this monumental change, we quickly find that we need the freedom to explore. One of the best ways to create the space to let this process unfold is to reduce your financial obligations and start to scale your work hours back to a reasonable level. This will give you the time you need for discovering more about your true hopes and dreams.
If you are going to organize your finances and reduce your monthly costs, you should take a good look at the debts you are making payments on each month. Most credit cards have outrageous interest rates and are set up so that the minimum you pay each month never lets you get debt free. It’s a good idea to take out a personal loan from a private lender so you can consolidate your debts and lower your interest rate.
Get a Life Coach to Help You Along the Way
When your mid-life awakening arrives, it’s really easy to get thrown for a loop by everything that is going on. In the midst of all the change and self-reflection it’s helpful to have an experienced guide who can keep you moving forward to your new path, or trail. A great life coach can help you ask the right questions and can take you through processes that guide you to your deepest truths. Once you understand more about who you are meant to be, they can help you get there and can assist as you create your new life and way of being.
