Many years ago a small tuning company called Weineck Engineering, located in the small German village of Bad Gandersheim, decided to work their magic on the iconic Shelby Cobra roadster. The Cobra is already a powerful British car that was ripped apart by Carol Shelby and turned into an American muscle car, but with German ingenuity, the Weineck Cobra 780 CUI Limited Edition has gone into supercar territory.
The Weineck Cobra 780 CUI is powered by a 780 cubic inch (12.9 liter) V8 engine that produces a massive 1,100 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 1,298 pound-feet (1,760 Nm) of torque at 5,600 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. 0 – 62 mph (100 km/h) is reached faster than you can say “0 to 62 miles per hour”… or about 2.5 seconds, and getting to 186 mph (300 km/h) takes only 10 seconds.
With the naturally aspirated V8 engine producing so much power, one would think the body would fall apart from all the stress produced by the engine. Fear not, Weineck engineers made the body and chassis out of carbon composites, made a tubular frame, and MIG welded it all together for maximum rigidity and strength. The car also comes with ASR, ESP, and ABS brakes to keep the occupants safe.
The Weineck Cobra 780 CUI looks like many other Cobras, except it comes with a huge air scoop on the hood to help the massive V8 engine breathe. The car sits on massive 315/35 ZR18 tires at the rear and 255/40 ZR18 tires at the front, with Weineck 3-piece custom wheels.
Only 15 of these unique Cobras were produced, with a price tag of $746,000 US. If you want to get your hands on one now, there is one going on the auction block at RM Auctions in Paris, in February.
