When in Rome

I’ve probably heard the saying, “When in Rome” at least a thousand times, so in my quest to discover exactly what Romans really do, I set out on yet another adventure heading to Italy, but only after I made a pitstop on www.vistajet.com and booked a flight.

Once only thought of as a city of antiquity and exquisite architecture, Rome has evolved into a local hipster hangout. As a matter of fact the word hipster has really taken off in Italy and as you walk down the streets, you can see it being referred to as such.

Whether discovering outlying neighborhoods or diving right into Rome’s most popular touristic hangouts such as Piazza Navona and Campo di Fiori, Rome is like no other. Although the city can sometimes feel like an amusement park, there are a lot of things to do and see here. And if you happen to be in the right place with the right people, you may never want to give up La Dolce Vita.

People Watching

Rome is probably the easiest, and most entertaining of cities for people watching. Famous for its public spaces, families, couples, students and children always seem to congregate for your viewing pleasure. From the top of the Spanish steps to tiny piazzas hidden between narrow streets, you are guaranteed to see someone sitting there. Fountains are especially popular during the summer where you see people trying to dip their toes into the cool water.

Situated in between the city center and San Giovanni, Pigneto is a mecca for hipsters. Here is where you will find the coolest locals, to-die-for wine bars and retro-chic shops for men. Monti is another incredible zone full of hipster-type venues and vintage stores, as is Trastevere and San Lorenzo.

NightLife

Just a 10-minute walk down Via Marsala brings you to San Lorenzo. It’s close to the university, so there is never a shortage of trendy people around. You won’t want to miss the pizza at Formula One. Ater one bite, you will know why it’s worth standing in line for. This holds true for Said Chocolate Bar as well. Once an industrial warehouse, you can hang out on the rooftop deck while sipping a Spritz. The newest kid on the block is Marmo. Hanging lanterns and an enormous outdoor deck makes this the perfect place for aperitifs.

Pigneto is at the top of the must-do list when in Rome. Just a little further south than San Lorenzo, Pigneto has become the place to be at night. When in town, head to CoHouse where you can dine like the Romans or relax with a cocktail. On the weekends, you’ll find locals brunching at Necci. Bottoglieria Pigneto is also popular among the local hipsters here.

Monti is probably the ultimate hipster area in Rome. It’s here where you will find a lot of vintage clothing shops for men and cafes that worth a visit during the daytime. Ater the sun goes down, you can grab a cheap beer like one of the locals and enjoy people watching in front the fountain.
