I think it’s safe to say that country is categorically a terrible genre of music. If you don’t feel strongly one way or another about it, you need only listen to a few songs and I suspect you’ll change your tune.
There’s just something inherently grating about it, both the sound typical of the genre, and the lyrics. When it comes to most genres of music, even if I don’t personally care for something, I can appreciate how someone else might like it.
Not so with country.
To make matters worse, it’s also hilariously formulaic. I know, a person could say that about almost any pop song, but… just listen to this mash-up of 6 popular country songs:
- “Sure Be Cool If You Did”- Blake Shelton
- “Drunk on You”- Luke Bryan
- “Chillin’ It”- Cole Swindell
- “Close Your Eyes”- Parmalee
- “This is How We Roll”- Florida Georgia Line
- “Ready, Set, Roll”- Chase Rice
If nothing else, these songs will make you want to “close your eyes” forever.
I don’t know, am I being crazy? Does country really have some redeeming qualities that I’m just not appreciating? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. In the mean time I’m going to try and forget the horrors that just pummeled my ear drums.
While I appreciate your right to have an opinion…I invite you to listen to Eric Church or Brantley Gilbert. Both country artists that might give you a different view on country music.
What is this country music you speak of?
Lost it’s way I would say.
Music does not have to be complicated, regardless of the genre. Simple is often times best and as long as the listeners like it, isn’t that a good thing? Those that don’t like it can always just change the channel.
It’s very true, there’s always that option.
