I’ve always wanted to get a Zenith watch, but their watches are a bit (okay, a lot) out of my price range and the watches are just a little too big for my wrists. Zenith is famous for their fast beating El Primero movements, their El Primero 4021 movements have been in use for over a decade; the Swiss watchmaker has put this movement into an extremely limited edition watch.
The watch, Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Open, is limited to only 10 pieces and is available exclusively at the United Kingdom based The Watch Gallery.
The watch features a stunning dial; the same dial first got my attention over a decade ago. The dial is a modern take on designs from the 1960’s and 1970’s. The dial is painted in a special blue color, exclusive to this limited edition watch. The dial is quite simple with 12 hour indices, 4 main hands, date sub-dial at the 3 o’clock position, power reserve indicator at the 6 o’clock position, and a large opening between the 8 and 10 o’clock position. The opening shows the beautiful heart of the movement, if I owned this watch, I’d probably spend most of the day staring at the movement doing its thing.
The watch comes in a 42 mm stainless steel case with a black alligator leather strap with blue stitching. The front of the watch is covered with Anti-Reflective coated sapphire crystal and the see-through caseback comes with sapphire crystal. The watch is powered by the El Primero 4021 automatic movement with a 50 hour power reserve.
The Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Open watches are priced at 6,750 or about $10,300 US at today’s exchange rate. This is about a 10% increase over the regular non-limited edition El Primero Chronomaster watch.
