Zero Petrol is an awesome competition on right now to celebrate the release of the 100% electric Nissan Leaf. (Which is awesome, truly… but whoever came up with that name needs to die a painful death.) In any case, old gas pumps are being recycled into interactive show pieces with an entirely different purpose than doling out petrol. Check after the jump for some truly amazing and definitely wacky ideas for a gas free future. These bizarre arts and crafts are being given away, albeit to people in Australia.
Zero Petrol Gas Pump Art – Where’s the Evil Death Robot version?
The Nissan Leaf is made using recycled materials, and is meant to charge while you sleep or work, running ONLY on electricity. While this is a great step in the right direction, I think we all can admit that it’s unlikely we’ll get to tear out all our gas pumps any time soon. Until the day where we can capitalize on cleaner, more efficient energy, the Zero Petrol project is there with any number of ridiculously silly art pieces that are actually functional. I’ve included some of my favourites here, but I highly recommend heading over to the project site and taking in the full majesty of all the ideas… some of which seem like they may have been conceived while huffing whatever gas fumes were left over in each pump. We’re not eligible to win anything here over the pond, but there’s definitely more hilarity than harm in taking a look. The possibilities for decorating the ultimate man garage or man cave are endless: with a tv, dog kennel, safe, Pac Man machine, lamp, fish tank, bird cage, book case, sock drawer and coffee machine (among even more items) not included in my post, there’s more than enough ridiculous gadgets for any guy.
